HC Deb 16 December 1974 vol 883 c354W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how long it is estimated that it would take, at the present rate of progress, to upgrade all remaining navigable inland waterways to cruiseway status.

Mr. Denis Howell

None of the British Waterways Board's "remainder" waterways has yet been upgraded to "cruising" status under the provisions of the 1968 Transport Act. I am at present considering, in consultation with the board and the Inland Waterways Amenity Advisory Council, the case for seeking, by order, to upgrade certain of them.
