§ 24. Mr. Goldingasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what steps she intends to take to strengthen the Consumer Council for the Gas Industry.
Mr. Alan WilliamsAs announced in the White Paper on the National Consumers' Agency, we shall be assuming certain responsibilities in relation to the nationalised industry consumer councils, other than the Scottish electricity consultative councils. This transfer will take place on 1st February 1975. It will increase the gas consumers' councils' independence of the industry, as will the provision, if Parliament approves, for financing the councils directly from Government funds.
