HC Deb 12 December 1974 vol 883 c220W
48. Mr. John H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what discussions he has had with the Motor Agents' Association and other associations representing motor traders who sell petrol, about the abolition of a maximum retail price for petrol.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

The Motor Agents' Association and the Petroleum Retailers' Association have made representations to officials of both my Department and the Department of Energy about the effect of the Motor Fuel (Maximum Retail Prices) Order 1973 on their members' businesses and their view that continuation of the order in force is not justified in present circumstances. Any decision to rescind the order would be for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Energy to take in consultation with other interested Departments including my own.
