Mr. Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many women are employed in the textile industry; what proportion this is of the total labour force; and what proportion of female employees pay the industrial injuries stamp only.

In September 1974 the estimated number of female employees in employment in textiles in Great Britain was 245,100 or about 46 per cent. of the total number of employees in employment in the industry. The estimates are subject to revision when the results of the June 1974 census of employment become available. Information about the proportion of females who pay only the industrial injury contribution is not available for individual industries.
