HC Deb 11 December 1974 vol 883 cc158-9W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the progress of the construction of the M11 motorway; and when he anticipates that the various sections will be completed and opened to traffic.

Mr. Carmichael

The section of the M11 from Redbridge to Loughton, which is under construction, is due to be completed in the summer of 1976. The contract for the section from Loughton to South Harlow was let in November and work will commence in January 1975. Construction is expected to take about two years. The section from South Harlow to Bishop's Stortford, which is also under construction, is due for completion in the summer of 1975. The section from Bishop's Stortford to Stump Cross could start in the spring of 1976, subject to the availability of funds at the time.
