HC Deb 11 December 1974 vol 883 cc186-7W
Mrs. Sally Oppenheim

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what final date she has set for consultation on the Consumer Protection Advisory Commitee Report published on 2nd December 1974; and when she proposes to make regulations.

Mr. Alan Williams

The report was laid before Parliament on 2nd December 1974 and published on 3rd December. I hope that the consultations can be completed in the new year so that an order under Section 22 of the Fair Trading Act can be presented to Parliament as soon as possible.

Mrs. Sally Oppenheim

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will list the references that have been made by the Director General of Fair Trading under the Fair Trading Act to the Consumer Protection Advisory Committee.

Mr. Alan Williams

The Director General made a reference to the committee on 24th April about the purported exclusion of the inalienable rights of consumers and failure to explain the existence of those rights. On 16th May 1974 the Director General made a reference to the committee about prepayment in mail order transactions and in shops.
