HC Deb 11 December 1974 vol 883 c186W
Mr. Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will reintroduce the mark of origin on all items of clothing and footwear.

Mr. Alan Williams

The Trade Descriptions Act 1972 already requires origin marking for all imported goods to which a United Kingdom name or mark is applied. This should prevent consumers from being misled in many cases where there might otherwise be doubt. It is also an offence under the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 to give a false or misleading indication of the place of manufacture of goods.
