HC Deb 11 December 1974 vol 883 cc197-8W
Mr. Tebbit

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) when he expects to identify individually the civilian staff employed by his Department who are to be made redundant;

(2) how many civil servants will be made redundant as a result of his defence cuts.

Mr. William Rodgers

The reductions envisaged of 30,000 directly employed civilians will take place over a period and about half will fall amongst locally entered civilians abroad. It is too early to give any precise figures, but some redundancies will occur amongst civilians employed in the United Kingdom, although these will be kept to a minimum.

Mr. Tebbit

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what terms of compensation will be offered to civilian staff made redundant as a result of his defence cuts.

Mr. William Rodgers

For United Kingdom-based staff compensation will be under the terms of the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme 1972 and for locally entered staff overseas under the terms of similar local regulations.
