§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many new university chairs in clinical medicine have been established in the past three years; and if he will list the university departments, the titles of the chairs, the sources of funds, and the dates on which they were established.

(3) if he will appoint to the MRC an otolaryngologist, specialising in otology.
§ Mr. PrenticeSince 1920 there have been 108 medically-qualified members on the council, some serving more than one term of office. No otolaryngologist specialising in otology has been a member, and I cannot undertake in advance to appoint one. It would be impracticable to try to ensure representation of every medical specialty on the council itself, but specialists serve on sub-committees and working groups.
