HC Deb 10 December 1974 vol 883 cc141-2W
Mr. Ifor Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he has made any further assessment of the state of the cockle fishery in the Burry inlet, South Wales; and whether he will make a statement regarding the cull of oyster-catchers.

Mr. John Morris

The progress of this cull has been kept under careful review. It has brought about a reduction in the number of oystercatchers, but there has in addition been a reduction through natural causes. In view of this, we do not think any further purpose would be served by continuing with the cull and my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has asked the South Wales Sea Fisheries Committee to discontinue it.
