HC Deb 10 December 1974 vol 883 cc82-3W
28. Mr. Lawson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she will state, for the latest available six-month period, and for the same six months of 1973, the total amounts (a) of supplementary benefit paid to those on strike, (b) of supplementary benefit paid to the families of those on strike and (c) of unemployment benefit paid to those temporarily laid off as a result of strikes or other industrial action elsewhere.

Mr. O'Malley

For the six months up to 26th November 1974 the provisional figures were (a) £1,126 and (b) £509,692 For 1973 the corresponding figures were (a) £331 and (b) £322,901. I regret that it is not possible to distinguish which recipients of unemployment benefit are laid off because of trade disputes elsewhere.
