HC Deb 09 December 1974 vol 883 cc6-7W
45. Mr. Dodsworth

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the estimated cost to public funds of the modernisation plans for the ship repairing industry that he intends should be undertaken under State ownership.

Mr. Meacher

It will not be possible to make such an estimate with precision until the publicly-owned undertaking has reviewed the need for new investment and the extent to which this can be met from the industry's own resources.

47. Mr. Selby

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what progress he has made in his consultation with the interests concerned with shipbuilding and marine engineering.

Mr. Meacher

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Newton (Mr. Evans) on 19th November.

Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he has now ascertained the cost to public funds of the study commissioned by a former administration from PA Management Consultants Ltd. on the ship repairs industry in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Meacher

The cost of the ship repair study amounted to £54,720 excluding VAT and printing.
