HC Deb 09 December 1974 vol 883 c35W
Mrs. Bain

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what grants have been made available for research in offshore technology; and what proportion of the total of the money involved has come to Scotland, giving details of specific grants in Scotland.

Mr. John Smith

In 1974–75 the expenditure of the Department of Energy on research and development in offshore technology through the Ship and Marine Technology Requirements Board and directly is estimated to be over £2 million in full economic cost terms. It is not possible to indicate precisely what proportion of the total is going to Scotland because work under many of the contracts placed by the board with firms whose headquarters are in England may well involve purchases from many Scottish firms.
