HC Deb 09 December 1974 vol 883 cc17-8W
Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what were the unemployment figures in male and female categories for Halesowen and Stourbridge

polyvinvyl-chloride plastic, in view of possible risks to public health in the vicinity of PVC factories; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Harold Walker

The working group which is drawing up a code of practice for the PVC industry is primarily concerned with safeguarding the health of workers. Questions related to public health in the vicinity of PVC factories are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment. An official of his Department is already a member of the working group to watch and advise on environmental interests, as also are officials of the Department of Health and Social Security. I do not consider it necessary to enlarge the membership further at this time.
