HC Deb 05 December 1974 vol 882 cc607-8W
Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he is satisfied that no danger of explosion exists at the Royal Naval Armaments Depot, Bedenham, Gosport.

Mr. Judd

The most stringent safety precautions are enforced in the storage and handling of explosives in the depot. As a result, the risk of an accidental explosion is remote but can never, of course, be entirely discounted.

Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he has designated an area or in any other way indicated a distance from the Royal Naval Armaments Depot at Bedenham within which civilian activity should be limited.

Mr. Judd

In the interests of public safety statutory arrangements exist under the direction of the Secretary of State for the Environment for the Ministry of Defence to be consulted by the local planning authorities when considering development proposals near establishments such as the Royal Naval Armaments Depot, Bedenham.
