HC Deb 05 December 1974 vol 882 c607W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many fishery protection vessels are in service around the coastal waters of Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, respectively, to prevent foreign vessels from poaching in British waters.

Mr. Judd

As far as the inshore fishery protection duties of the Royal Navy are concerned, the waters of the British Islands are treated as a whole and vessels are not allocated to particular countries. There are, at present, eight mine counter-measures vessels and one fast patrol craft in the Fishery Protection Squadron but other units of the Fleet assist as necessary.
