HC Deb 04 December 1974 vol 882 c519W
3. Colonel Sir Harwood Harrison

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why the Stowmarket bypass building programme has fallen behind schedule; what additional costs have been incurred as a result; and when he expects that the new bypass will be open.

Mr. Carmichael

This scheme has been delayed by the energy crisis earlier this year, difficulty in obtaining supplies of materials, and the unusually wet autumn weather. No additional costs have yet been incurred as a result, although the contractors have lodged a claim which has yet to be determined. The section of the bypass from Stowmarket to Beacon Hill is now expected to be completed in July 1975. The section from Beacon Hill to Claydon is still due for completion in November 1975.
