asked the Prime Minister what official histories of peace-time episodes have been commissioned since 1969.

The Prime Minister

Since I announced on 18th December 1969 the commissioning of three works in the new series of official histories covering selected periods or episodes of peace-time history, two more works in that series have been commissioned, as follows:

  1. (i) External Economic Policy 1945–1960, being written by Professor L. S. Pressnell, B.Sc. (Econ.), Ph.D., Esmée Fairbairn Professor of Finance and Investment in the Graduate Business Centre of the City University.
  2. (ii) Defence Organisation since the Second World War, being written by Professor D. C. Watt, FR.Hist.S., Professor of International History in the University of London.
