HC Deb 04 December 1974 vol 882 c503W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the total payment made to the Belfast bakery firm of Messrs. Hughes Ltd. to protect it against possible trading losses; what subsidies have been paid to improve its cash flow position; and what has been the total cost to the taxpayer of grants paid to this firm.

Mr. Orme

Bernard Hughes Limited is in receipt of the standard assistance normally available to industrial undertakings in Northern Ireland. In addition, the company is to receive a limited amount of special assistance over a 12-months period. The purpose of the special assistance is to maintain employment in an area of high unemployment and to enable the firm to rationalise production facilities. The amount paid so far is £62,500.
