Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the number of infantry, artillery and armoured units which have served in Northern Ireland in the last five years and the extent to which these units have so served more than once.

Since August 1969, 47 infantry, 24 artillery and 15 armoured major units have served in Northern Ireland. Of these, all the infantry units, 18 artillery and seven armoured units have served more than once.

Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the approximate number of men and women currently serving in the Army who have served in Northern Ireland during the last five years.

It would require disproportionate effort to provide this information.
