HC Deb 03 December 1974 vol 882 c467W
Mr. Ian Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what projections of the future volume of air traffic to and from Luton Airport were taken into account in considering the revised routes in the London terminal control area.

Mr. Clinton Davis

The northerly departure route change proposed for the London terminal area is, in the judgment of the Civil Aviation Authority, essential to meet safety requirements in respect of traffic using Heathrow Airport. In formulating the revised routes the authority was aware of the undertakings given by the Luton Corporation that the number of air transport movements at Luton shall not exceed 33,568 in the years up to 1975–76, but traffic at this level at Luton is not relevant to the considerations involved.
