Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Trade (1) what Government finance is available to build a new airport in north Cheshire;

(2) what would be the estimated cost of building a new airport in north Cheshire;

(3) whether he considers that additional airport facilities are required in the North-West of England;

(4) what Government financial aid is available for further extensions to Ring-way Airport, Manchester, and Speke Airport, Liverpool;

(5) what effect he estimates a new airport in north Cheshire will have upon Ringway Airport, Manchester and Speke Airport, Liverpool;

(6) whether the Royal Air Force base at Burtonwood, north Cheshire, is being considered as a potential site for a new airport in north Cheshire.

(7) what sites are under consideration by him and the Civil Aviation Authority for the establishment of a new airport in north Cheshire.

Mr. Clinton Davis

We are awaiting the recommendations of the Civil Aviation Authority on the Central England Airports Study. Questions of cost and financing do not, therefore, arise at this stage.
