HC Deb 02 December 1974 vol 882 c392W
Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects to be able to announce his decision upon the route of the Ml6 motorway between the A12 and the A13.

Mr. Carmichael

My right hon. Friend has been concerned about the effect which the proposed major interchange with the A127 would have upon the residents of Cranham and upon Codham Hall. He has, therefore, decided to withdraw his proposals for this interchange and to look at the possibility of providing an intersection which would be smaller and less obtrusive. He has, however, decided to accept in principle the line of the motorway as published, subject to consultation with objectors and other interested parties and a view to (a) moving the line eastwards between a point north of Broadfields and one south of Foxburrow Wood and (b) moving it slightly through Foxburrow Wood to reduce the effect of the motorway in this area. These decisions will be conveyed to everyone concerned shortly.
