HC Deb 02 December 1974 vol 882 c378W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade on what date he approved revisions to the London terminal control area proposed by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Mr. Clinton Davis

The conclusion was reached in early September last that the proposed revision was required on safety grounds which must always be paramount.

Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether the Minister will postpone revision of the London terminal control area until local authorities, airport consultative committees, amenity associations and groups with a known interest in aircraft noise can present alternative proposals to lessen noise nuisance.

Mr. Clinton Davis

I am informed by the CAA which is responsible for these matters that it is essential in the interest of safety to introduce new arrangements in April 1975. It would, therefore, be most undesirable to postpone the date of implementation. But any practical suggestions consistent with the maintenance of a high standard of safety will be carefully considered for incorporation in the new system.
