HC Deb 02 December 1974 vol 882 c386W
Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the number of persons presently employed in the Alkali Inspectorate.

Mr. Denis Howell

42, including five members of the inspectorate's dust testing teams.

Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment which is the nearest office of the Alkali Inspectorate to West Gloucestershire; how many inspectors are employed in that office; and what is the geographical area that they must cover.

Mr. Denis Howell

West Gloucestershire is in the inspectorate's "M" District which includes as well Wiltshire, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and parts of West Sussex, Surrey, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The district office is in Swindon. It is staffed by two inspectors. There is another inspectorate office at Bristol but this is a different district.
