HC Deb 30 April 1974 vol 872 cc434-5W
Mr. David Price

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take steps to protect the British grower from competition from the Republic of Ireland, following the granting of permission by the EEC for Irish growers to be given a refund of 3.6p per pound on all tomatoes exported to the United Kingdom.

Mr. Moyle

In a recent judgement the European Court of Justice declared void part of a Council regulation giving the rates for the transitional compensatory amounts applying to tomatoes imported into and exported from the Irish Republic between 11th June and 21st November on the grounds that they had been wrongly calculated. The Commission has yet to put new proposals to the Council of Ministers following the court's decision. Meanwhile we are considering the possible implications.
