HC Deb 30 April 1974 vol 872 c435W
Mr. Money

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether, in order to keep down the price of sugar for the housewife, he will approve an extension of the permissible national acreage for sugar beet.

Mr. Buchan

The national acreage for sugar beet is decided by negotiations between the British Sugar Corporation and the growers and is not subject to my right hon. Friend's approval. Over the last two years the contracted acreage has increased by 45,000 to 488,000 acres.
