HC Deb 30 April 1974 vol 872 cc455-6W
Sir G. Howe

asked the Secretary of State for Trade (1) what estimate he has made of the likely impact on the growth of air traffic at Gatwick Airport of any decision to defer or cancel the Maplin project ;

(2) to what extent he can give an assurance that deferment or cancellation of the Maplin project will not necessitate or lead to the construction of a second runway at Gatwick Airport.

Mr. Clinton Davis

The possible impact on the growth of air traffic at Gatwick of a decision to defer or cancel Maplin, will be one of the matters to be considered in the review of the Maplin project which my right hon. Friend announced on 21st March.—[Vol. 870, c. 1334–40.] On present information, I do not think it will be necessary to provide a second runway at Gatwick in the foreseeable future.
