§ Mr. Michael Lathamasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether she will list the items other than milk, bread and butter which she proposes to subsidise, indicating in each case what part of the £550 million allocated for expenditure in 1974–75 will be spent on each item, expressed both as a percentage and as an actual monetary figure in each case.
§ Mr. MaclennanI would refer the hon. Member to the reply my right hon. Friend gave yesterday to my hon. Friend the Member for Islington, South and Fins-bury (Mr. Cunningham), regarding a subsidy scheme for certain varieties of cheese. We hope to be able to make a further announcement very shortly, giving full details of the scheme and its likely cost. We shall inform the House as soon as decisions have been taken on the intro- duction of any further schemes.
§ Mr. Biffenasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT the details of the flour subsidy scheme, and in particular those provisions which will enable the Department to determine that the subsidy is paid only on flour used for baking loaves of 10oz. and more.
§ Mr. MaclennanDetails of the bread subsidy scheme are set out in the relevant registration and claim forms, copies of which were placed in the Library of the House on 9th April. Applicants are required to give an undertaking that they will claim subsidy only in respect of wheat flour used in the production for sale of loaves weighing more than 10 oz. Regular visits will be made to bakery firms to ensure that the conditions of the scheme are being complied with.
