Estimates of hospital spells are based, as far as England and Wales are concerned, on sample data. Numbers of corresponding deaths in the sample are 411W too small to enable reliable estimates to be made; the figures quoted are therefore of all deaths from these causes, whether in hospital or elsewhere.
