HC Deb 30 April 1974 vol 872 cc421-2W
Mr. Redmond

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that the revenue now lost by the importation of duty-free spirits by tourists and travellers amounts to several million pounds a year, he will take steps to keep some approximate record of what the loss is to the revenue on this account.

Dr. Gilbert

Goods imported by travellers within the duty-free allowances are not required to be declared to Customs, who therefore have no basis on which to keep a record.
