HC Deb 29 April 1974 vol 872 cc380-1W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement about the exceptions to generalised preferences made by Japan against Hong Kong's exports to that country.

Mr. Ennals

The Japanese Government have reduced the number of exceptions from their generalised preferences scheme for Hong Kong to six items from 1st April this year, compared with 96 items when Hong Kong was originally included in 1972 and with 12 from June 1973. While we welcome this latest move, we shall continue to urge the Japanese Government to eliminate the remaining exceptions.
