§ 20. Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Secretary of State for Energy what was the percentage figure by which the price of gas for domestic consumers in Scotland exceeded the average price in England and Wales during the most recent annual period for which figures are available; and what was the comparable percentage 5, 10 and 15 years previously, respectively.
§ Mr. StrangThe average revenue per therm in Scotland from domestic customers exceeded that in England and Wales by 27.4 per cent. in 1972–73, the excess being mainly attributable to the lower average consumption in Scotland and higher distribution costs arising from population density and geography. The comparable figures for 5, 10 and 15 years earlier were 30 per cent. 27.4 per cent. and 9.4 per cent.
