asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether upon release a prisoner injured during prison service is liable to be disallowed sickness benefit because of his inability to have made the relevant contributions during the period of imprisonment.

If as a result of imprisonment there is a gap in the rele- vant contribution record, sickness benefit may not be payable, or may be payable only at a reduced rate. I shall be writing to my hon. Friend about the case I think he has in mind as soon as I have the full facts.
