HC Deb 29 April 1974 vol 872 c353W
Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking to monitor any coastal air pollution which might arise from the burning of waste by incinerator vessels operating off Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Mr. Denis Howell

The incineration of certain wastes takes place at sea about 100 miles east of Berwick-upon-Tweed. I am satisfied that this causes no coastal air pollution problem. Local authorities already have powers to undertake monitoring should they wish to do so.
