HC Deb 09 April 1974 vol 872 cc112-3W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if, in his review of student finances, he will consider the desirability of Government-sponsored supplementary or bridging loans.

Mr. Gerry Fowler

The main aim of my right hon. Friend in the current review of student grants is to reach a reasonable settlement as quickly as possible. The question of loans could, if necessary and desirable, be explored subsequently.

Mrs. Winifred Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, in his deliberations on the raising of students' grants, if he will investigate the effect of students' hostel charges in any proposed increases in such grants.

Mr. Gerry Fowler

This has already been done.
