Mr. Hatton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement in respect of the revised building programme for the Manchester Polytechnic.

Mr. Gerry Fowler

The projects planned for Manchester Polytechnic are being considered along with a large number of projects for other institutions for inclusion in the limited building programme for the year beginning 1st July 1974. The Department will be in touch with the local education authorities concerned as part of the process of selection.

Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list in the OFFICIAL REPORT the major building projects of polytechnics which have been deferred beyond 1st July 1974.

The following polytechnic projects in England and Wales, originally planned to start in 1973–74 and costing more than £50,000, have been deferred beyond 30th June 1974 as a result of the arrangements set out in Circular 15/73.
