HC Deb 09 April 1974 vol 872 c144W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what plans he has for further improving the main road from Girvan to Ayr;

(2) what plans he has for further improvements to the A76 and A70 roads serving South Ayrshire.

Mr. William Ross

I have in mind the following improvements for trunk roads A76 and A77 and for principal road A70 in South Ayrshire, but because of current restrictions on public expenditure and the competing claims of more urgent schemes I cannot at present say when they are likely to be carried out.

A76

Redecking of Afton Bridge, New Cumnock.

Replacement of Lugar Bridge.

New bridge over railway and improved alignment at Bargower.

Cumnock and Auchinleck Bypass.

New Cumnock Bypass.

Replacement of Hollybush Bridge.

Reconstruction of Nith and LMS Railway Bridges.

Realignment west of New Cumnock.

Mauchline Bypass.

A77 (Girvan to Ayr)

Realignment from Blackglen to Maybole.

New bridge at Bridgemill.

Realignment at Minnibae—Milton.

Straightening at Smithson.

Principal road—A70

Ayr County Council, as highway authority for this principal road, plan to improve it at the Beeches between Ayr and Coylton, but I cannot at present say when I might be able to accept their scheme for grant.
