HC Deb 08 April 1974 vol 872 c47W
Mr. Hatton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she will now announce a starting date for the new hospital to replace the Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Dr. Owen

Construction of a new works department for the new hospital is already under way and is expected to be completed later this year. Under present plans, a new boiler-house and a residential block are to start this summer and other ancillary buildings in the first half of next year. It is hoped to commence work on the first phase of the main hospital within the next three years, but this must depend on many factors, amongst them the economic situation as a whole as well as progress in the planning of this scheme.
