HC Deb 05 April 1974 vol 871 c463W
Mr. Molloy

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he has taken to assist the London borough of Ealing with the problem of caravan dwellers on land owned by his Department.

Mr. John Silkin

The duty to provide accommodation for gipsies in Ealing rests, by statute, with the borough council. My Department has made it clear, however, that it will readily consider any constructive proposals by the council for dealing with unauthorised encampments on Government land.

Mr. Molloy

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what arrangements have been concluded for a meeting between his Department and representatives of the London borough of Ealing and the London borough of Hillingdon to resolve the problem of caravan dwellers on his Department's land.

Mr. John Silkin

A meeting between officials and an inspection of the site took place on 22nd March last.
