HC Deb 03 April 1974 vol 871 c367W
83. Mr. Kinnock

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his talks concerning the projected rugby football tour of South Africa and Rhodesia.

Mr. Denis Howell

I have discussed with representatives of the organising committee the various reasons why the Government are opposed to the tour and the contrary views of the rugby authorities in organising it. We found a good deal of common ground in our opposition to apartheid in sport and I was assured that the committee would consider the matters which I put to them. The decision on whether to tour is, in the last resort, a matter for them.
