HC Deb 02 April 1974 vol 871 cc325-6W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will give details of the special arrangements for cattle and beef in Northern Ireland which he announced on 25th March.

Mr. Buchan

As a special measure, payments are now being made on cattle slaughtered in Northern Ireland sent to Great Britain or exported, equivalent to the compensatory charge on cattle exported to the Irish Republic. This charge is necessary because of the difference

we have proposed their inclusion in the EEC feed additives directive. We are pressing for an early decision on our proposal, which, if adopted, would offer the best approach to dealing with this problem.
