HC Deb 01 April 1974 vol 871 c271W
Mr. Cordle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps designed to encourage recruitment into the various police forces so as to bring them up to and maintain them at their recognised establishments.

Mr. Tierney

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of the fall in recruitment figures to the police service during 1973 in cities like Birmingham, if he will give immediate consideration to the problem of police recruitment.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

I will do all that I can, by central publicity and other means, to assist chief officers to encourage recruitment to the police, and I will keep the matter under regular review.
