HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 cc628-9W
Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give the number of cases at each of the rent tribunals in the Greater London Council area where eviction orders are being sought by landlords during each of the last three years.

Mr. Eyre

Rent tribunals are not empowered to make eviction orders but county courts may grant orders for possession.

Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give the number of cases heard at the Croydon Rent Tribunal during each of the last three years where residents living in the borough of Wandsworth are seeking a rent reduction and the number of cases where landlords are seeking an eviction order against tenants.

Mr. Eyre

The Croydon Rent Tribunal hears cases from the boroughs of Wands-worth, Kingston-upon-Thames, Mertoa, Sutton and Croydon. It is not possible to identify applications by residents of an individual borough within this area, and the following figures are therefore for the entire area covered by the Croydon Rent Tribunal for the three years:

July 1970 to June 1973 Cases in which the tenant applied for rent reduction
July 1970—June 1971 220
July 1971—June 1972 277
July 1972—June 1973 353

Rent tribunals are not empowered to make eviction orders but county courts may grant orders for possession.
