asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals he has for improving the regulations further to restrict noise levels of vehicles.

Mr. Peyton

To achieve significant reductions in the current noise levels during the next year and in the longer term, a reduction of about 10 decibels—a halving of the apparent loudness. This proposal has been put to members of the EEC.
