HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 cc700-1W
Mr. Warren

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the negotiations proceeding between International Computers Limited and a German computer manufacturer; and if he will give an assurance that he will not sanction giving up in whole, or in part, ICL's own European marketing capability in order to finance the expansion of ICL as a Government-backed company.

Mr. Anthony Grant

As I have made clear on several occasions, the Government believe that co-operation between ICL and other European computer companies, on the right commercial terms, is desirable, and that it is primarily for ICL to decide how best to promote its commercial interests in the European context. I cannot anticipate the outcome of any particular negotiations.
