HC Deb 27 November 1973 vol 865 cc86-7W
44. Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will give guidance to employers on the practice to be followed in granting days off in lieu of public holidays, in view of the fact that employees tend to refuse this and ask for payment instead.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

No. This is a matter best left to be settled by agreement between an employer and his employees or their representatives.
