§ Mr. Brewisasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will seek powers to make provision for the continuance of existing town twinning arrangments with continental towns, following the changed status of some towns, resulting from local government reorganisation.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellIt is for individual local authorities to form such links with foreign towns as they think desirable. The Joint Twinning Committee has already written to local authorities in England and Wales, asking for information on town twinnings and links after reorganisation, with a view to offering guidance when questions arise. I understand that it will be considering a similar approach to the Scottish authorities early next year.
