HC Deb 12 November 1973 vol 864 c44W
61. Mr. Bishop

asked the Attorney-General in what circumstances the Official Solicitor is brought into cases.

The Attorney-General

The Official Solicitor is a servant of the Supreme Court. He acts either at the request of the court or in pursuance of standing instructions. These cover his normal duties, which include representing persons suffering under disability, dealing with applications for bail and keeping under review the cases of persons committed to prison for contempt of court.
