HC Deb 12 November 1973 vol 864 c18W
Mr. Thin

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list for each police force in England and Wales the number of persons aged 10 and under 17 years of age found guilty or cautioned by the police, giving the percentage of the total formed by those cautioned.

Mr. Carlisle

The number of persons aged 10 and under 17 years of age found guilty or cautioned by the police in England and Wales in 1972 was 197,586, of whom 82,099 (41.6 per cent.) were cautioned as an alternative to prosecution. Figures for each police force are not immediately available. I am obtaining them and shall write to the hon. Member.
